Why Donegal spun yarn? Donegal has a rich history of textiles—tweed, weaving, and knitting—fueled by its rugged landscape and hardy mountain sheep. Known for cold, wet weather and strong coastal winds, this region understands the need for yarn that stands up to the elements. Spun in a 100-year-old mill, these bases are crafted to keep you warm, no matter what the weather brings.

Galway Wool
A Heritage Irish breed

This wool is sourced from purebred Galway Sheep, a registered pedigree breed, guaranteeing authentic Native Irish Wool. Known for its excellent stitch definition and structure, Galway wool is ideal for crafting an Aran sweater with a truly authentic look and feel. It also serves as a perfect base for re-creating traditional Aran knitwear, outerwear, or sweaters.
We’ve combined Galway Wool with our Rosegold Variegated colorway to give a modern twist to a classic vest design. The crisp, Irish-grown Galway yarn beautifully complements the vibrant, contemporary Rosegold, making for a fun, contemporary contrast.

Donegal is reknowned for it’s rocky terrain, gusty wind & sideways rain – and of course it is the home of Tweed. Spun in a 100 year old mill, we love pairing it with our variegated yarns for a modern twist on a classic Aran knit.
The Donegal Sweater – featured in our magazine Issue 7 – Into the Woods Cabin Living is crafted from our unique Woolly Aran Tweed & our hand-dyed Aran Merino in the colorway Cyloid. This updated take on the classic Aran sweater features a traditional tweed body, complemented by speckled Merino Aran detailing on the cuffs, collar, and hem. Flecks of green, yellow, and copper lend a modern flair to the timeless design.
